Rival Pathfinder Tactical Features: Upgraded Barrel System

The Pathfinder XXII-1200 is a pump-action Nerf gun with a 12 round mag and a single fire mode of delivery. It’s designed for accuracy and has a fully adjustable sight that can be raised, lowered or shifted from side to side, therefore affecting both accuracy and performance. The stock allows for a tight fit against the shoulder giving the gun increased consistency and control.

Additionally, the Pathfinder has a newly designed “streamlined” barrel system which typically accounts for subtle changes in a positive direction, although the final verdict is still unknown as to how it’s affecting performance.

Loading The Rival Pathfinder

The Rival Pathfinder has an updated magazine system that offers a quick release button and what this equates to is a larger button which is easier to work with. Overall it’s very similar to the Rival Finisher and will only slide into the magwell in one direction. The slight forward angle of the magwell makes for an ergonomic advantage once you’re used to it, however, it will give the blaster a larger overall footprint. Also, the magazine is interchangeable with other Rival Nerf guns.

Rival Pathfinder XXII-1200: Pump-Action Nerf Gun

Operating this Nerf gun is a simple 3 step process.

  1. Insert a fresh mag into the magwell
  2. Cycle the pump-action primer one time by pulling it back and then returning it to the forward position
  3. Pull the trigger to fire a single round

The cycle is smooth with an average spring tension that will accommodate increased cycle speeds, although the rate of fire is about average for this style of Nerf gun.

The Pathfinder has a firing velocity of 90 feet per second (FPS) which falls just short of other Rival Nerf guns. A 10 point drop off is not a significant loss and there’s still a lot of push behind this blaster. However, if velocity is a priority I would consider checking out the Hyper series. They’re currently the highest FPS Nerf guns available.

Rival High-Impact and Accu-Rounds: Primary Pathfinder Ammo

Accu-Rounds were designed for and will come packaged with the Pathfinder XXII-1200 and the new color isn’t the only thing that sets them apart from High-Impact Rounds. They have endured a complete design overhaul that is noticeable when both rounds are examined side by side. Accu-Rounds have a hexagon dimple pattern, whereas the High-Impact rounds have more of a rounded dimple pattern, therefore increasing their accuracy rating. Furthermore, this ammo will work with all Rival Nerf guns.
